SAL Engineering MAIA
Overview
The MAIA 9 band multispectral camera, developed by SAL Engineering, is a UAV mounted, high spatial resolution instrument where each band can be matched, via relative bandpass filter sets, to one of two satellite sensors:
- MAIA S2, where each band corresponds to the first nine bands of the European Space Agency Sentinel-2 sensor
- MAIA WV, where the first eight bands correspond to the DigitalGlobe WorldView-2 sensor, with the ninth band an RGB camera
The filter sets for both the MAIA S2 and MAIA WV are designed so that their spectral response function exactly matches the corresponding spectral response function of either Sentinel-2 or WorldView-2, allowing for an accurate comparison between UAV and satellite imagery in the spectral domain. This allows for a powerful Sentinel-2 or WorldView-2 validation technique, and can aid in the supervised classification of Sentinel-2 or WorldView-2 imagery.
The facility provides both MAIA S2 and MAIA WV instruments. The technical specification for both models is provided below.
